Like a gift from heaven, the new series of the Great British Bake Off arrives tomorrow - and it's exactly what we need right now.

From Tuesday 21st September, we'll be able to combat our end of summer woes and second lockdown fears with a bit of jolly baking.

Last week, Channel 4 released a trailer for the new series and we met the 12 new contestants aiming to impress with their signature bakes and showstoppers in the iconic tent.

As usual, it looks as if the series is set to serve some hilarious moments including disastrous bakes and plenty of LOLs along the way.

We also got to see brand new judge Matt Lucas in action for the first time and it already looks as if he'll be fitting right in.

At one point in the trailer, Matt Lucas accidentally eats what appears to be a rose hip, with baker Sura explaining: "You're not supposed to eat that."

To which Matt replies: "Well I know that now!"

As usual, it appears Paul Hollywood is still holding no prisoners, calling one contestant's sponge "bone-dry".

Meanwhile, contestant Rowan attempts to finish off a cake in the microwave and one baker serves up a collapsed chocolate showstopper.

While the new season is slightly behind schedule, as filming was supposed to begin in April but was delayed until July, we're so glad the iconic baking show is able to go ahead this year.

To ensure they could film safely, it's believed contestants and crew all quarantined in the run up to the filming, essentially creating a bubble.

Little Britain star Matt recently spoke about the filming process, explaining the crew had hired out a hotel and even described it as "like a holiday camp".

"Love Productions hired a hotel and we had a skeleton staff of 25, and we had a Covid medic team and special cleaners and everyone lived in this hotel and the tent was in the grounds," he told Steph's Packed Lunch this week.

"It was tough for the bakers - we had two days on and two days off, and on the days off the bakers were in practice kitchen, so it was gruelling for them.

"... I hosted bingo one night, and Prue did a flower arranging class, and Paul Hollywood bought his pizza oven and made pizzas for everybody, it was like a holiday camp."

Bake Off returns to Channel 4 on Wednesday 22nd September at 8pm.
