Netflix viewers left furious as 'amazing' series is brutally cancelled after two seasons

While we've all been spoilt for choice when it comes to cracking telly, it's clear we don't always get our way.

Netflix viewers have been left furious after an 'amazing' series on the platform was brutally cancelled after just two seasons.

The show in question, Shadow and Bone, was by Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling Grishaverse novels, and has since attracted a massive devoted fanbase obsessed with the fantasy drama.

Its premise sees sinister forces plot against a young soldier after she reveals a magical power that may unite her world. It starred the likes of Jessie Mei Li, Archi Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young and Ben Barnes.

Bardugo took to Instagram yesterday (15 November) to share a heartfelt message to all the fans out there confirming there would be no Six of Crows spin-off for the Shadow and Bone series which was created, written by and executively produced by Eric Heisserer.

The decision was made just one week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and over a month after the end of the WGA strikes.

She began: "Friends, by now you've probably heard that there will be no season 3 for Shadow and Bone and no Six of Crows spinoff.

"The news hit me hard. I'm heartbroken and deeply disappointed, but I'm also trying to hold onto my very real gratitude."

The No. 1 New York Times best-seller continued: "Most authors never get to see their work adapted.

"Many who do end up regretting the experience. I'm one of the lucky few who can look at an adaptation with pride and tremendous joy."

Bardugo went on to says she was 'grateful' to the writers, crew and 'extraordinary cast' who are not just 'wildly talented, but genuinely good people'.

"Most of all I want to say how grateful I am to the folks reading this - whether you found your way to the books first or discovered them through the show," she continued.

"The Grishaverse is a better place because of you and I am so thankful for every tweet, post, comment, review, artwork, fic, tattoo, and cosplay that helped to make all of this possible."

The mastermind behind the story added: "We're book people and that means we never stop imagining that magic can be made real. You are proof of that.

"Now, I'm going to go have a cry, and maybe a drink, and then see where the story takes us next."

She concluded 'no mourners' before signing off.

Well, it's clear there most definitely were mourners grieving the series' cancellation with many rushing to social media to share their heartbreak over the news.

One X, formerly Twitter, user penned: "Genuinely so upset... Six of Crows is a great queer fantasy story and the spin-off was looking to be promising."

"This breaks my heart," revealed a second, while a third hit out: "Netflix cancelled Shadow and Bone. I am cancelling my life. Universe is testing me so hard rn."

A fourth fumed: "Netflix you had the best casting with Shadow and Bone and fumbled the bag HARD."

"No way they cancelLed Shadow and Bone and no Six of Crows spin off," added a fifth. "It had an amazing cast, representation, diversity, & was constantly trending. I’m p*ssed."

A final fan of the show echoed: "Shadow and Bone cancelled… no one speak to me ever again…"
