European city 'sells wine cheaper than water' and flights are only £22

Now, we all love a good little jet-setting moment but many of us hate the hefty price-tag that inevitably comes it.

Well, worry no more about hurting your wallet as there's one European city that people claim sells wine cheaper than water and flights are as little as £22.

Look no further than the home of pasta, pizza and gelato galore for a cheap and cheerful getaway that won't blow the bank.

Now, we've heard of the woman who says it was cheaper to fly to Milan for 12-hour spa day than spend her day off in London, the Brit who also flew to Milan for £27 for a spa day and pizza, and the mum who flew her kids to Pisa for just 24 hours 'to eat some pizza' as it was cheaper than trip to London.

But, there's another Italian city that should be on all of our radars when it comes to thrifty travelling - Venice.

Venice is the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, and is extra special because, unlike other major cities, it has no roads - just canals.

The cobbled streets are lined with picturesque Renaissance and Gothic palaces to stroll through peppered with buzzing piazzas to kick back and relax in while you sink your teeth into some antipasti with bargain Italo vino to wash it all down.

Kacie Rose, a TikToker and travel influencer who goes by the handle @kacierose4 online, took to the platform to share with her one million followers a little more about the hidden gems of the city.

"In Venice, and pretty much all over Italy, there are a lot of pieces of hidden history that you might just walk by and not realise are pieces of hidden history because nobody is there to tell you about them," she began.

She then explained that as you walk through some of the big squares and courtyards in Venice, you can see white squares all over the ground with holes in them.

Kacie continued: "At first, you might just think they're drains or something.

"But actually, they all lead to a massive underground cistern and that covers almost the entirety of the square and the cylinder things you see in the middle are the wells."

The globe-trotter shared: "It was once said that Venice is in the water, and yet it has no water and that's because getting fresh, drinkable water in Venice back in the day was super difficult.

"So they used these cisterns to collect rainwater [and] at one point there were over 6000 of them."

Kacie captioned the TikTok: "It's also why wine was cheaper than water."

Even better? Well, travel fans have claimed this is still the case if you look for the right spots in the city to glug a glass of vino.

Well, in that case, sign me right up!
