First-ever ‘grans go free’ holiday package launching giving kids chance to make memories with grandparents

First-ever ‘grans go free’ holiday package launching giving kids chance to make memories with grandparents

A top airline has launched a 'first-of-its-kind' deal for people to make ‘quality family memories’ together

A popular airline has launched the first-ever ‘grans go free’ holiday package to give kids a chance to make happy memories abroad with their grandparents.

While many of us may have grown up enjoying holidays in the sun with parents and siblings, we’ve rarely had the chance to take the older generation with us.

It somehow seems excessive – and expensive - to get the wider family involved, even though bringing the grandparents along would not only provide great babysitting potential for mum and dad, but also let the kids hang out with some of the people that adore (spoil) them the most.

With this in mind, easyJet has launched a ‘first-of-its-kind' discount that allows seniors to ‘travel free of charge’ on family bookings to a number of European hotspots.

The airline said the ‘grans go free’ deal was inspired by new data that revealed ‘Brits are lagging behind the rest of Europe when it comes to multi-generational travel’, with hopes it would encourage people to make ‘quality family memories’ together.

The research, which polled 2,000 Brits, found that 51 percent of families had never gone on holiday abroad with grandparents, with 56 percent saying they regretted not spending more time with them and 27 percent admitting to speaking to their grandparents less than once a week.

The findings also showed that 77 percent agreed the bond between grandparents and grandkids is one of the most special relationships within a family unit.

The only catch is that you can only take one grandparent for free, so you’ll either have to pick who you love most... or, perhaps more kindly, put your money where your mouth is to get the full gang abroad.

It might even be the perfect chance to whisk a lonely grandma or granddad away for the type of trip they may not have had for many years – making memories that will last forever.

Matt Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer at easyJet holidays, said it’s ‘time to recognise the grandparents’, commenting: “This research shows how important grandparent and grandchild relationships are and how much can be learned from making time for them.

“We’ve launched our ‘Grans Go Free’ offer to tighten these important family relationships and allow travellers to get even better value, in addition to our Big Orange Sale.”

The deal is available now after launching today (1 February), but there are a limited number of spaces so you’ll have to be quick.

It requires the grandparent to be travelling as part of a family booking with at least one child, with proof of age and relation taken on arrival at the hotel.

To book, call easyJet on 0330 134 8000 or head to the company’s website for more information.
