There's a dating event this week where you can pet cats and drink Prosecco

If you're looking for a date on Thursday and you love cats and booze, this event is definitely one for you!

Calling all cat lovers! There’s a dating event taking place this week where you can pet kitties, drink booze and maybe even walk away with a date or two.

What more could you ask for, really?

Battersea Cats & Dogs Home has partnered with the dating platform Thursday to give daters the ultimate night out where you can also give a little fur baby a home, or learn more about adopting one.

People who use the Thursday app will be invited to take part to meet the feline residents at Battersea this Thursday (12 October) and celebrate the unbridled cattitude of the cats being cared for who are waiting to find their forever home.

Since Thursdays are the new Fridays, why waste your time making reservations at the same old bars when you can play with cats and drink Prosecco (or a non-alcoholic beverage) all evening this week. And don’t forget that cats need love too, of course.

With the appropriate title of ‘Purrrsday’, the event was created to shine a light on cats for once and to encourage more people to adopt them as Battersea celebrates the 140th anniversary of the day it began welcoming cats to its iconic centre in London.

The leading animal welfare charity conducted research to delve into the relationship we humans share with our furry friends and the extraordinary bonds people share with their feline companions. It should come as no surprise that cats play an invaluable role in our lives.

According to the findings of the survey by Battersea, 49 percent of cat owners would prefer spending time with their feline friends. Can you blame them? Who wouldn't want to cuddle with a cat after a long day at work (or get cat-slapped by them since they do tend to have the most hilarious mood swings.)

For many cat owners, quality moments with their cats include having a nap, sharing a cuddle, and watching TV together, with these situations ranked higher than spending time with their partners. In fact, 31 percent of respondents even admitted that they'd prefer sharing their duvet with their cat over their significant other.

And out of the 1,000 people surveyed, 51 percent of owners believe their own personality matches that of their cat. While 47 percent of cat owners find their pets less irritating compared to their human counterparts.

Perhaps most strikingly, a third 33 percent of respondents admitted to moments when their significant other feels jealous of the attention their cat receives. Since everyone at the Purrrsday event will be a cat-lover, this won’t be the case if you happen to get a relationship out of it.

Bradley Tovell, Battersea Cattery Team Leader commented: “The research has certainly shown all the enjoyment that can be had from spending time with and owning a cat. After 140 years together at Battersea, we have learned that one of the best ways we can be here for cats is by finding our feline friends a home where their cattitude can truly shine. Whether you’re looking to rehome a cat or perhaps learn more about fostering or volunteering, find out more on our website.”
