Woman dumps date who asked her to help pay electricity bill after he blew all his money on ‘pricey’ meal

Woman dumps date who asked her to help pay electricity bill after he blew all his money on ‘pricey’ meal

She said his behaviour was 'toxic', and that she wished he'd handled the situation in a 'different way'

A woman has revealed how she dumped her date after he asked her to help pay his electricity bill, having supposedly blown all his cash on their ‘pricey’ meal.

Kendra Roxberry, 29, had been dating the ‘charming’ man - let's call him Josh - for a couple of months when he asked her to pick a restaurant, telling her not to worry about the cost.

Assuming his ‘finances would be in order’, the mum-of-two opted for a spenny seafood joint as Josh footed the whole $250 bill.

However, Kendra was stunned when he messaged her a week later asking her to pay $376.54 to get his ‘lights turned back on’, saying he didn’t think it would be an ‘issue’ as he’d paid for her meal.

Her response? Bluntly telling him things wouldn’t work out, before blocking his number.

Kendra, a nurse from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, said: "The trash took itself out.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with reaching out for help but using the date over my head to try and get money out of me threw me off him.

"He was very handsome, smart, kind and he seemed very well-put-together. He had a similar sense of humour and we got along great. The chemistry was there.

"I feel like we were even. I wasn't using him for his money and expecting him to pay for everything. I enjoyed his company and would pay for things too.”

Kendra said things were ‘moving quite well’ so felt it was a ‘shame’ that their budding relationship ended that way.

"I wish he would have approached it in a totally different way rather than it being something he expected me to do,” she explained.

She wished Josh had approached the issue in a 'different way'.

"I'm not a cold-hearted person and I realise times are hard and sometimes people need help.

"Living alone in this economy I get that things are expensive but being a welder I assumed he had his stuff together and his pay was similar to mine.

"If you ask someone on a date and you say the budget doesn't matter then you assume they have their finances in order.”

Kendra added: "I don't want to deal with any more of that. It was quite toxic and so rude. He was trying to guilt trip me.

"If he was willing to hold that over my head so soon then who knows how toxic a relationship could be with him."

The mum-of-two ended up blocking his number.

Kendra said she matched with Josh on Tinder and messaged for a week before they went on several dates, having seen each other for about two months in total.

"The last time we went out he asked where I wanted to go,” she recalled.

"I wasn't really sure about his budget situation but he said it didn't matter and I could pick wherever I wanted to go.

"I told him that if you really don't care where we go I'd really like to go to the local seafood place and I know that it's a little bit pricey.

"He said 'great' and that was fine, so that's where we went."

Josh ended up footing the $250 bill, only to later message Kendra about helping with his bill payments.

After she posted his message on Facebook, many others were equally shocked by the exchange, with one commenting: "I'd be asking why he got you a $200 seafood boil when he had bills to pay? That doesn't sound like your problem."

A second agreed and said: "You should laugh react and never talk to him again. Shouldn't have paid for the boil if he had bills to pay."
