When you start chatting to someone on Tinder, you never imagine that they're actually secretly engaged. It's not exactly a high bar to set, but we expect our dates to be single, tbh.
But that's exactly what happened to Kimberly Anne from Florida, who was left "flabbergasted" after arranging a date, only to find her match proposed to his girlfriend last month. Yep, really.
The pair, who had been chatting on the dating app, discussed they were "looking for someone special" however when 31-year-old Kimberly saw her match pop up as a suggested friend on Facebook, she was in "complete shock" to see he was not only in a relationship, but the couple had also recently announced their engagement.

Despite him saying she had the wrong man, an arm tattoo gave him away and Kimberly said she felt compelled to break the awful news to his fiancé.
"I matched with this guy on Tinder and we were chatting for the entire evening, arranged to meet for a date and exchanged numbers," she explained.
"I asked him what he was looking for and he asked me the same question and I told him that I was hoping to find my special someone and he responded with 'I love that'.

"He sent me a message on Whatsapp and I asked him why he was messaging me on there instead of just sending a regular text and he just changed the subject.
"When I started scrolling on Facebook it brought up suggested friends and I recognised him immediately from his profile picture. I thought I'd take a look and the first thing I noticed was that it said he was in a relationship.
"Hoping it was old I clicked on her profile and the first post was an engagement announcement from exactly one month ago. My first emotion was just complete shock, I could not believe it - I was just flabbergasted.

"I wasn't seriously emotionally invested yet, but I was angry on her behalf that he would do this to her."
After telling her she "had the wrong man" Kimberly compared the tattoo in his Facebook photo - and on his Tinder profile - realising they were exactly the same.
"My whole body was shaking when I was sending these messages because I didn't know how she was going to react," she explained

"I felt so awful and partially responsible that I could potentially be breaking this woman's heart.
"I said do what you will with this information, I would want to know if it was me. She just said 'it's ok it's not your fault, thanks'.
"I blocked him and unmatched with him on Tinder because I was afraid that there would be some sort of backlash - I didn't want to be harassed by him."

Kimberly explained she heard nothing from the couple since and isn't sure if they've decided to stay together to work on their relationship.
After sharing her experience on her own Facebook account, Kimberly said she'd been saddened by the number of women who had been through a similar ordeal.
"I want to believe that this is not something that is common. I've been single for eight months and ultimately want to find my special person - I would like my next relationship to be my last," she said.
"I have to be very careful going forward about what questions I ask and really assess the way they're answering those and continue to see if I can find anything about them online before I get too invested."
Note to all women: Facebook stalking really is essential.
