Aldi gin that costs £15 has been named one of the best in the world

If you’re someone who prefers to shop at Aldi rather than other supermarkets, then you might be interested to learn that one of their gins has just been voted as one of the best in the world.

It’s no secret how Aldi – amongst other similar supermarkets – has managed to shoot up in the world in recent times.

They managed to sell things at cheaper prices than their competitors in the traditional UK supermarket world, garnering a lot of business in the process.

And whilst some of the stuff wasn’t always of the big brand names that consumers would have been used to, it certainly wasn’t noticeably of any lower quality, and this latest award just proves that.

A gin that is sold at Aldi for nearly £15 has been ranked in one of the top spots at the International Spirits and Wine Competition (ISWC), so you could do worse than to prepare for summer by heading down and grabbing a bottle.

The gold medal winning gin is Haysmith’s Rhubarb and Ginger Gin, and it won 98 points – whatever that means – to bag one of the highest spots in the table.

In their tasting notes, the ISWC wrote: "Magnificently well-balanced with the full rich flavours of mouth-watering rhubarb, fiery ginger and chaste juniper.

"Delectably moist on the finish with the glorious pungency of lip-tingling Jamaican ginger cake, heaped with a generous dollop of deliciously tart rhubarb. Superb."

Sounds good, right?

It’s an un-aged gin that is sold at Aldi in a colourful 700ml bottle, with an alcohol content of 40 percent.

But if you’re a vegan, then you might want to steer clear though as it’s not suitable for you.

Still, if you can drink it, then you might want to because it’s apparently one of the best in the world.

If you did want to buy some – or even stock up – you’ll only have to pay £14.99 for your bottle, but remember that at Aldi, you can only buy 10 at a time.

To be fair, if you’re buying 10 bottles of gin at once you might want to be asking yourself a few questions.

Drink responsibly, guys.

It isn’t Aldi’s only winner at the awards, either.

The supermarket also took home 17 awards at the ISWC, with 10 in the top-rated entries.

Their Haysmith’s Blood Orange Gin won a bronze medal for ‘blood orange aromas that broaden on the palate [and] dry, easy finish with solid juniper’, whilst their Marnoch Limited Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky won a gold medal.

That’s priced at £17.49, which is incredible for a single malt.

Aldi UK’s managing director Julie Ashfield reflected on the success, telling Metro: "We are extremely proud to have received the highest possible accolade for our own brand spirits.

"Now more than ever, we want to show that low prices don’t mean compromising on quality or taste."
