We may have a little while before we get to see the next instalment of Netflix show The Umbrella Academy, but the writers behind the hit series have given us just a tease of what's to come.

Showrunner Steve Backman, who adapted the series from My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way's graphic novel, has shared a snap from the script of the first episode of the third season - and it's sure to set the tone of what we can expect when it finally returns.

Working aside Michelle Lovretta for episode one of the new series, Steve revealed on Instagram that the first ep will be titled Meet the Family.

He added: "Who's excited for season three?"

We certainly are, Steve.

The second series of The Umbrella Academy ended on a huge cliff-hanger - while our dysfunctional cohort managed to escape 1960's America and end up in the present day, they have drastically altered their timeline - and perhaps for the worse.

Their father Reginald is no longer dead, and neither is their brother Ben. Instead, the Umbrella Academy is no more, and has now been replaced with The Sparrow Academy - with a brand new set of 'super' heroes.

The new episode title of The Umbrella Academy suggests that the two 'families' will interact further than the glimpse of what we saw at the end of the second season, and knowing the volatile nature of our original heroes, things are likely to get heated - and we can't wait.

Tom Hopper, who plays Luther Hargreeves in the series, has hinted at what we can expect in Season 3.

"There's a whole host of new characters potentially, and new relationships, and a whole new world again," he told Radio Times.

"That's what I love about each season - it puts us into a whole new world and presses the reset button again, rather than just carrying on where we left off."

Netflix have previously confirmed that filming for the third season of the show was to start in February 2021 in Toronto, Canada.

Unless the ongoing coronavirus pandemic causes further disruption, we may see the new series hit Netflix as early as next year.
