Umbrella Academy Announces New Cast For Season 3

The Umbrella Academy ended on one hell of a cliff-hanger last season (so prepare for MAJOR spoilers below if you haven't got around to watching it!).

After saving the world from nuclear annihilation (no biggie), the dysfunctional family return to their own time - but all is not right.

Not only is their father still alive, but they've all seemingly been replaced by The Sparrow Academy, a new set of siblings each with their own superpowers.

And now, Netflix has announced just who will be joining the cast for the hotly anticipated third series of unorthodox drama - and just who's who in the brand new Sparrow Academy.

We already recognise Justin H. Min, who plays Ben - however, this is not the ghost of Ben we've learned to know and love in the previous two series of The Umbrella Academy. This new Ben is very much alive; scheming, tactical and vicious, he is determined to gain his status as leader.

Meanwhile, Jingle Jangle star Justin Cornwell will play Marcus, the current head of the Sparrows. He is described as a "charming, chiselled, colossus," as well as being "honest, virtuous, and demanding."

"Marcus keeps the family together," the synopsis reads. "Graceful but lethal, calculated but compassionate, he is as smart as he is strong. Marcus is disciplined, rational and in control. He oozes confidence and leadership without ever having to raise his voice."

Elsewhere, Britne Oldford will play Fei. While she may come across as misanthropic, Fei is desperate to have company. "Most of the time, Fei is the smartest person in the room and willing to work things out," her description reads. "But if you cross her there's no looking back because Fei won't stop until the job is done."

Suits star Jake Epstein will star as Alphonso. Years of crime fighting have left his face and body with countless visual reminders of his battles. To compensate, Alphonso is armed with a caustic and biting sense of humour. The only thing he likes better than verbally battering anyone foolish enough to get in his face, is a good pizza and a six-pack of beer.

Also joining the cast is Big Hero 6's Genesis Rodriguez, who will play Sloane - a romantic and a dreamer who feels a higher cosmic calling leaving her eager to see the world and experience a life beyond her upbringing. But obligations to her family keep Sloane tethered to the Academy, as does her fear of crossing the family line. But Sloane has plans... and one day she might just be brave enough to act on them.

Lastly is Cazzie David as loner Jayme, one of the more terrifying newcomers. Jayme has a fear-inducing snarl. Catch a glimpse of it, and you'll run across the street to avoid what follows. Smart and sharp as a knife, she spends most of her time hanging with Alphonso, her only friend.

The new announcement also gave an update on that strange levitating cube we got a glimpse at in the final few seconds of season two. The cube is called Christopher and is also part of The Sparrow Academy. His strength is "turning the room freezing cold and induce paralysing fear."

He acts as the Sparrows' consulted oracle who hands out incredible advice and serves as the family mediator. Trustworthy, loyal, and is treated by the Sparrows like any other sibling, Christopher is a force to be reckoned with.

Season 3 may be a while off yet, but this announcement shows it's going to be worth the wait...

The Umbrella Academy seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
