The trailer for The Nightingale - director Jennifer Kent's follow-up to 2014's horror The Babadook - is here, and it looks just as intense as you'd expect.
The Nightingdale, starring Aisling Franciosi of BBC Two's The Fall, Sam Claflin of The Hunger Games fame, and a feature film debut by Baykali Ganambarr, is set for release on 8th August 2019.
The gory horror is set during the colonisation of Australia in 1825 and tells the story of Clare (Franciosi), a 21-year-old Irish convict who is desperate to be freed from her violent and abusive master Lieutenant Hawkins (Claflin).

When Clare's husband resists his cruelty, Hawkins rapes her and kills her husband and baby, leaving her for dead. Bent on revenge, Clare seeks to track down Hawkins with the help of reluctant Aboriginal tracker Billy (Baykali Ganambarr).
IFC said: "The Nightingale is a meditation on the consequences of violence and the price of seeking vengeance."
Naturally, people are super excited for Australian writer and director Jennifer Kent's follow-up to her directorial debut The Babadook, the 2014 horror which tells the story of a widowed mother Amelia Vanekwho struggles with the violent death of her husband.

The mother battles with her sons fears of a monster lurking in their home, called The Babadook, but soon discovers there's more to his fears than childhood frivolities.
The Nightingale, which was shown at the Venice Film Festival in 2018, received strong early reviews.
Variety said: "If The Nightingale's earthy historical setting and relentless focus on real-world terror are departures for Kent, however, one of its most salient virtues is consistent with her debut: She can conjure a nightmare on screen like nobody's business."

The film won two award at the festival, the Special Jury Prize, and Baykali Ganambarr received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor.
Speaking of her second film, Kent said: "I am very proud of the film and my crew for daring to tell a story that needs to be told. Love, compassion, kindness are our lifeline, and if we don't utilise them, we will all go down the plughole."
The Nightingale is due for release on 8th August 2019.
