The exciting news came shortly after Reese Witherspoon (who plays Elle Woods in the iconic movie) hosted a virtual Legally Blonde reunion over on her Hello Sunshine YouTube channel.
Reese had taken to social media just hours earlier to tease the reunion (which was the first ever in 20 years), posting a snippet which you can watch below:
Alongside Reese, other cast members tuning in for the reunion included Selma Blair (who played Vivian Kensington), Luke Wilson and Holland Taylor.

It's certainly been a dramatic 24 hours for Legally Blonde fans, who are ecstatic that the release date has finally been announced.
The third instalment had Mindy Kaling at the helm (so let's face it, we know it's going to be good) and was originally tipped for release in May 2020. However, due to the pandemic, was sadly pushed back.
Excitingly, Reese will be reprising her role as Elle Woods, with Mindy telling Good Morning America: "I was nervous, because the [original 2001] movie is so iconic. But then I thought, 'It'd be really fun to see that character in her 40s. What is Elle Woods dealing with as a 41-year-old woman?'

"And it's been really funny to write. And I'm working on it with my friend Dan [Goor], and I think it's going to be a great movie for Reese and people are going to love to see her in this part."
It's currently unclear which other cast members will be returning for the third movie, but Reese has previously hinted that other OGs will be making an appearance.
But what will Legally Blonde 3 be about?!

Well, that's also being kept under wraps, however Matthew Davis, who portrayed Warner Huntington III in Legally Blonde, suggested: "I would love to see something where perhaps Warner is married to a politician, to a woman who's running for office, and he's sort of like a kept man."
Meanwhile on Watch What Happens Live, Reese previously said: "Somebody thought it would be really funny if Elle went to jail."
Either way, it's going to be epic - bring on May 2022!
