Twenty years after Elle Woods first introduced us to 'bend...and snap!', we're being treated to a third movie from the Legally Blonde franchise.

Reese Witherspoon was 25 when she starred in the first Legally Blonde movie. Now, the 45-year-old Oscar-winning actress is bringing us up to speed on Elle's life since graduating from Harvard Law, marrying the lovely Emmett Richmond (Luke Wilson) and pushing Bruiser's Bill through congress.

Is Legally Blonde on Netflix UK?

The Legally Blonde movies aren't currently on Netflix, but they could become available nearer the release of the third movie.

Legally Blonde is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.

Legally Blonde 3 release date

Legally Blonde 3 has been on the cards since 2018 and it was originally meant to be released on Valentine's Day in 2020. But, like a lot of TV and film releases, coronavirus slowed it down and the release date was then pushed to May 2020.

Legally Blonde 3 will now be released on 20th May 2022.

Legally Blonde 3 cast

Alongside Reese Witherspoon, we can expect to see Luke Wilson, who plays her husband Emmett, return in the third movie.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, WItherspoon said some of the OG cast members will be returning, but she didn't specify who.

"I can't imagine anything that would be more fun. Reese played such a great character," Wilson told Entertainment Tonight.

It's likely we will see Elle's nail technician friend Paulette (Jennifer Coolidge) return; she was briefly in the second movie helping Elle to plan her wedding.

We could also see ex-boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) back as fans will be keen to see how his career turned out after graduating Harvard with no work placement lined up. And since Elle and Vivian became tight, we're likely to see Selma Blain reprise her role in the third movie.

Legally Blonde 3 trailer

As the film is still in the early stages, there's no trailer available yet.

We'll let you know as soon as we get an update on all things Legally Blonde 3.

What is Legally Blonde about?

As it's been 20 years since Legally Blonde first came out, here's a quick recap.

Legally Blonde (2001)

Elle Woods is a spoiled, ditsy, fashion major who thinks her boyfriend Warner is about to propose. But it turns out he actually took her out to dinner to dump her for a girl with more brains and ambition.

To get the ultimate revenge and prove that she's got brains as well as beauty, Elle makes it her mission to be accepted into Harvard Law School, where Warner is going.

The first film sees the former sorority leader and party girl bringing a healthy splash of pink to the law department and solving her first big case as an apprentice under sleazy professor Callahan (Victor Garber).

While nobody will take her seriously at Harvard, Elle confides in her nail technician, Paulette (Jenifer Coolidge) and Elle ends up putting her new knowledge of the law into practice to help her only friend in Boston.

Elle and Warner's new girlfriend, Vivian (Selma Blair), who hated each other to start with, become best friends by the end of the movie. Vivian dumps Warner, leaving him single and just about scraping through law school.

Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde (2003)

In Legally Blonde 2, Elle has bigger fish to fry as she takes on congress to stop animal testing in the beauty industry.

Emmett and Elle are preparing to get married and Elle insists she can't get married without knowing all of her family... including her fur family. What starts as a far-fetched mission to track down her dog Bruiser's mum, ends in Elle introducing what later becomes Bruiser's Bill, after her beloved dog's mum was discovered in a laboratory for cosmetic testing.

Elle faces plenty of opposition along the way from congressmen and women who find her a ridiculous woman in pink who has no place in politics. But Elle once again proves them all wrong and it's a happy ending for everyone.

So what's in store for the third movie? Babies? Owning a law firm? Who knows.
