Cleganebowl Finally Happened And 'Game Of Thrones' Fans Were All Saying The Same Thing

Warning, this article contains spoilers for episode five, season eight of Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones fans were finally treated to Cleganebowl during the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, and some fans dubbed it "the great moment" of the show so far.

So, it's fair to say that the Cleganebowl - the battle between Sandor "The Hound" Clegane and his older brother Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane - truly lived up to the hype.

ICYMI, the Hound has long wanted revenge on his brother, The Mountain, after he pushed him into a fire as a child for playing with one of his toys, scarring him for life.

And episode five, season eight was his moment - something which fans have been predicting for a while now, coming up with the name Cleganebowl.

The Hound came to blows with his zombiefied brother on a crumbling staircase inside the castle, and a clash of epic proportions ensued.

The Mountain pinned his brother against a wall, crushing his eyeballs, but The Hound attempted to fight back by repeatedly stabbing his rival. But it seemed like it was all in vain when even a dagger through the eyeball couldn't stop The Mountain.

The dramatic battle came to an equally as dramatic end when The Hound realised that neither of them would make it out alive, deciding to instead sacrifice himself to take down The Mountain.

The Hound tackled his brother through a wall and the pair met a grisly end in the flames below, bringing a memorable end to their fight.

After a series of recent slip ups during production (namely a Starbucks cup in one shot last week), Game of Thrones fans were blown away by Cleganebowl, with some charting it as the best moment of the HBO fantasy drama so far.

"Greatest moment ever. Forever #CleganeBowl," declared one person on Twitter.

While another added: "Clegane Bowl lived up to the hype."

"At least they got something right. They gave us #CleganeBowl," shared a third, and somebody else echoed: "The cleganebowl was sooo epic!!"

The Game of Thrones finale airs on HBO at 9pm on Sundays in the US and at the same time on Sky Atlantic on Mondays.
