Amy Schumer Criticised For Saying 'Banned' Oscars Joke

Amy Schumer Criticised For Saying 'Banned' Oscars Joke

The comedian revealed that a joke about the Alec Baldwin on-set Rust shooting was axed from the award ceremony

Amy Schumer landed the gig of a lifetime when she was selected to host this year's Oscars ceremony.

But while she put on quite a show alongside co-hosts Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, the comedian and actress has now revealed that certain jokes were off-limits for the trio.

Speaking at a stand-up show at Las Vegas’s Mirage Theatre over the weekend, Amy, 40, revealed she was banned from making jokes about podcast host Joe Rogan and actor James Franco.

However it was a joke about the Rust shooting though that has caused a stir on social media.

"Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun. I wasn’t allowed to say any of that at the Oscars, but you can just come up and slap someone,” she said in reference to Will Smith's altercation with Chris Rock.

Some fans have expressed surprise that despite claiming she was "triggered and traumatised" by the slap, Amy was seemingly happy to reference the tragic accident that killed cinematographer Hayla Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Posting to Twitter one social media user wrote: "Amy Schumer: Will Smith slapping Chris Rock was a traumatic moment for poor me. Also Amy Schumer: Remember when Alec Baldwin killed a [woman]! Isn't that funny!"

A second wrote: "Amy Schumer is upset because she couldn't make a joke that's not even funny."

"I'm still shocked that she admitted this...why would anyone admit to writing this joke!? Also, how could she? I used to like Amy Schumer but she has given me so many reasons to dislike her lately" a third added.

Speaking about the now-infamous slap, Amy added: "I was kind of feeling myself, and then all of a sudden, [Will] was making his way up and it was a f*cking bummer."
