Not everyone prefers the traditional route when it comes to weddings, and for those of us who prefer savoury over sweet, choosing a wedding cake can be tricky. UK supermarket Tesco is finally offering an alternative - a five-tier 'cake' made entirely out of cheese.
Priced at just £30, it's easy on the wallet too. Each tier is a different type of cheese, starting with Coastal Cheddar cheese at the bottom, then Red Leicester cheese, Blue Stilton:registered: cheese, Wensleydale cheese with sweetened dried cranberries and sweetened dried blueberries, and topping it off with St Endellion Brie full fat soft mould ripened cheese.
The entire cake weighs just under three kilograms, and needs to be ordered six days in advance. But if you wanted to crank it up a notch, TheFoodMarket.com also sells a five-tier version for £65 that includes two types of brie and three types of cheddar but is lighter than the Tesco version weighing 2.5kg.
If you wanted to go even more premium, Waitrose also offers a cheese wedding cake. It is only three-tier but weighs nearly double than the Tesco and TheFoodMarket.com version at 5.5kg and is made from cheddar, stilton and Cornish yarg. Yumbles.com even sells a £249 version that has a whopping eight tiers of cheeses all of which are complex, organic English cheeses.
