The saying goes, if you love your job you'll never have to work a day in your life - and if your idea of heaven is spending all day with penguins, we may have found the role for you.

Chester Zoo is currently hiring for a Keeper to join its 'large and varied' Bird Team to assist with the daily care and management of species including Penguins, Parrots, Passerines, Pigeons and Cassowary.

Certainly beats sitting in an office doesn't it?!

The full time permanent role (40 hours per week) sounds like a dream for fans of the waddling birds, but sadly, not just anyone can apply for the role.

Chester Zoo are looking for someone with the right qualifications, experience and in depth knowledge of birds.

The zoo is asking for their ideal candidate to have a HND or degree level qualification in a zoological related science or equivalent experience, as well as 'proven experience in the care and exhibition of birds in a zoological or bird collection'.

They'd also like someone with 'excellent avicultural knowledge and experience of bird husbandry, diet and reproduction techniques', as well as an 'enthusiasm for and the understanding of modern zoos and the conservation challenges zoos face'.

Added bonuses that will make you stand out from the crowd include 'outstanding observational skills with a high attention to detail' as well as 'excellent verbal and written communication skills' and proficiency in IT.

Chester Zoo also note that a UK driving licence would be advantageous.

Chester Zoo does note that the working week will include some weekends and bank holidays.

You can apply for the position here by uploading your CV and writing a cover letter explaining why you'd be perfect for the role.

Closing date for applications is noon on 28 September 2020. Good luck!
