ITV cancels This Morning and Loose Women this week in scheduling shake-up

The scheduling for This Morning and Loose Women has been changed as the Women's World Cup begins.

ITV has cancelled This Morning and Loose Women this week in a scheduling shake-up.

While the news will certainly come as a disappointment to fans of daytime TV, it might be good news for football fans.

This week marks the start of the FIFA Women's World Cup and, because the 2023 competition is taking place in Australia and New Zealand, kick off times are largely taking place in the morning here in the UK.

As a result, some much-loved daytime shows are to face the brunt over the next few weeks.

On Friday (21 July), Good Morning Britain will not broadcast as usual, with Susana Reid and co taking a back seat for the football.

That is not the only ITV show being cancelled this week though, with both This Morning and Loose Women also not showing on Thursday (20 July).

However, fans of Lorraine are in for a treat, as there will be an extended show by 15 minutes on Thursday prior to Australia vs Republic Ireland and the opener match of the tournament as Norway face New Zealand on ITV.

The Lionesses begin their World Cup campaign on Saturday (22 July) against Haiti, and will also play against China and Denmark in the group stages.

If England were to progress, the knockout stages begin on 5 August, while the final will take place in Sydney on 20 August, which England will be hoping to be apart of following last year's Euro triumph.

And for those cheering on the Lionesses, coach Sarina Wiegman has excited fans ahead of the tournament kicking off down under.

"You can be very excited, I think we’re in a good place," she said.

Loose Women will also be off on Thursday, too.

"Everyone is getting to the next level again. The team is very excited, we have one more week to prepare for Haiti and we’ll be absolutely ready to go.

"We’re working hard, but the balance between working hard to improve and having some time off to switch to get some headspace is important.

"We are not robots. This environment helps too. We want everyone to be fit and well when the tournament kicks off."

As for non-footy fans, you'll unfortunately have a few weeks of disruption to some of your daytime favourites.

However, as the World Cup heads into the knockout stages, games will be less frequent, leading to the more frequent return of daytime classics.
