Why there will be no cash prize for Celebrity Big Brother winner this year

Why there will be no cash prize for Celebrity Big Brother winner this year

It's a pretty good reason

I'm sure we're all very excited to tune into the upcoming season of Celebrity Big Brother set to hit our screens next week.

Ever since ITV made the exciting announcement that the star-studded new series, hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, will kick off next Monday (4 March), fans have been buzzing to watch a brand-new cast of famous faces embark on the ultimate social experiment and become totally isolated from the outside world.

However, even after saying goodbye to their life of luxury in order to move into the legendary Big Brother house, there will be no cash prize for the winner this year and there's a pretty good reason why.

Now, the rumoured housemates this year include the likes of; Kate Middleton's uncle Gary Goldsmith, TV presenter Fern Britton, former X Factor judge Louis Walsh, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Strictly Come Dancing pro Nikita Kurzman and Ibiza Weekender star David Potts.

Expected to join them are Dragon's Den star Levi Roots, Heartstopper actor Bradley Riches, social media star Zeze Millz, actress Marisha Wallace, Coronation Street actor Colson Smith, Real Housewives of Cheshire star Lauren Simon and X Factor icon Sharon Osbourne.

With all that said however, an ITV spokesperson has told Tyla: "Any names are at this point pure speculation and viewers will have to tune in to see who will be entering the Celebrity Big Brother house."

So, what will the winner rake in after enduring their three-week stint of nominations, tasks and Big Brother house chaos?

Diddly squat.

Instead, the prize pot goes to a charity of the winner's choice, which is honestly rather lovely.

While they may not get any cold hard cash for taking home the crown, Celebrity Big Brother contestants do earn a hefty amount simply just appearing on the show.

It has not yet been revealed how much the star housemates are being paid for the 2024 series, but previous contestants have bagged hundreds of thousands of pounds for their time in the house.

So, I guess we'll have to just wait and see...

In other CBB news, thousands of ITV viewers have already preempted that the forthcoming series will be a big fat flop, with a handful blaming the 'A-list' lineup.

"The most boring Celebrity Big Brother lineup I’ve ever seen," one described the listing on X. "Channel 5 were perfect at casting. Where is the excitement and the people fans of CBB actually want to see?"

Another simply hit out: "Celebrity Big Brother lineup is so s**t…"

"The Celebrity Big Brother lineup looks like it should be for a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here series. Shockingly awful! Where is the drama? Where is the excitement?" a third went on.

Others claimed they'd 'never heard' of half the contestants.

"I've heard of three of them.... mis-selling the word celebrity," while another added: "I am getting old. I only know five of these housemates."

Another echoed: "Me over here just googling 90% of these ‘celebrities'," while another said: "Well what an absolute dreadful lineup that is, call it the Z-list."
