'P.S. I Love You' Is Officially Getting A Sequel Movie And Hilary Swank Is On Board

'Postscript' picks up seven years after Gerry’s death and six years since Holly has read his last letter.

The book sequel to PS, I Love You may have only been released yesterday (Thursday, 19th September) but author Cecelia Ahern has already confirmed that it will be coming to the big screen.

Postscript picks up seven years after Gerry Kennedy's death and six years since Holly has read his last letter.

Following an appearance on a podcast discussing his passing, Holly, who is now in a positive place and in love, is approached by a group of terminally ill individuals who have been inspired by her story.

The group, who call themselves the 'PS, I Love You Club', ask for her help to write similar letters Gerry left her in the wake of his death for their loved ones.

However, it means she's forced to revisit her grief and the love she had for Gerry, which brings back memories both good and bad.

While we're excited to read the new novel, we're also thrilled to hear that actress Hilary Swank, who played Holly Kennedy in the 2007 screen adaption of PS I Love You, has told Cecelia that she's onboard to star in the cinematic sequel.

Speaking to Irish broadcaster Ryan Tubridy on his RTÉ Radio 1 show yesterday, the author said that the Hollywood actress reached out to her after she announced Postscript.

The Dubliner shared: "One of the first people to email me when she heard the news was Hilary Swank.

"She was so excited, she wanted to read the book and she said, 'I would love to support you in any way, shape or form'. Then she read the book and she said, 'I want to make this movie'."

However, fans may have to wait a while for the big screen sequel as Ceceila admitted: "We don't have a director or a screenwriter or any of that, nothing's been announced yet, but the movie's happening! I'm delighted."

The novelist's debut book, PS I Love You, told the story of Holly, who after losing her husband Gerry finds a trove of notes he's written for her, one for each of the months after his death, signed "PS, I Love You" to help her grieve.

The Irish author confirmed in March that she would release a follow-up to the bestselling fiction.

All we need now is Gerard Butler to agree to reprising his role of Gerry.

Postscript was released by Harper Collins on Thursday, 19th September.
