The OC's Mischa Barton has confirmed that she has signed up to the highly anticipated reboot of MTV's The Hills.

Mischa will be joining OG reality stars Spencer and Heidi Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, Brody Jenner, Justin Bobby, Stephanie Pratt, Jason Wahler and Frankie Delagado in The Hills: New Beginnings.

Sharing a video of herself on Instagram, Mischa was seen taking off a pair of sunglasses to Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten', telling the camera: "Welcome to The Hills, b*tch."

Adding a few more words in the caption, Mischa announced: "The secret's out... I'm joining the cast of The Hills.

"When MTV approached me with the chance to be a part of the reality show that was inspired by The OC, it felt like the perfect opportunity for an irresistibly inviting new chapter."

MTV also confirmed the news on Wednesday with a Twitter post, which read: "THIS IS NOT A TEST @MischaBarton is joining the cast of #TheHills: New Beginnings!"

It's unclear where Mischa will fall into the group, although The OC is said to have inspired 2004's Laguna Beach, which led to spin-off show The Hills launching in 2006.

Mischa rose to fame as Marissa Cooper in the 2003 series, and she could have been brought in to replace leading ladies Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari, who haven't signed up to the reboot but each for entirely different reasons.

As for Lauren, she's said to be in a different place in her life, but does wish her former co-stars 'the best'.

Last year, LC welcomed her son, Liam, with hubby of almost four years, William Tell, and it sounds like she has her hands full working on her fashion collection for Kohl's.

Kristin, on the other hand, is currently starring in her own reality show, Very Cavallari, meaning she reportedly has contractual obligations to E!.

The mum-of-three's TV show with husband and professional American football player, Jay Cutler, aired on the network earlier this year.

MTV's new docuseries hasn't yet got an air date, although filming for this The OC/The Hills mash-up is already said to have started in August.
