Jessie J shares why she had to have C-section

The singer shared details about how she prepared for a vaginal birth before having to get a C-section

Jessie J has opened about her pregnancy journey in a candid social media post where she discussed having to have a C-section.

The 35-year-old pop star welcomed her first child with boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman last month.

On Thursday (1 June), Jessie J took to Instagram to share a playful video of herself dancing and cradling her baby bump in a hospital ward before having surgery.

Alongside the video, the ‘Price Tag’ hitmaker explained she was preparing for a vaginal birth but was told at her 40-week scan that the baby was ‘the wrong way around’.

“I spent 9 months prepping for a natural birth. Strict food, the epi no, yoga, swimming, hypnobirthing methods,” she explained in the post’s caption.

“I had a tens machine, a birthing comb, I wanted a pool birth ideally with no medication. BUT this was MY plan to stay disciplined and focused. I knew full well it could and would most likely go in a completely different direction.

“When people asked me 'So what's your birth plan' I said: 'I am open to surrendering to the safest way for my baby boy to arrive'.

“I had a scan at a few days off of 40 weeks and he was completely the wrong way around and stuck as he was a little chunkier than your average and long.

“I did everything to try and turn him for 2 months but he said 'Nah mum I wanna make an entrance out the roof, not the front door'.”

It was then decided that a C-section would be the safest way to welcome Jessie J’s baby boy into the world.

She continued: “I was advised to have a planned C section for the safest birth. This video was taken 5 minutes before I went down to surgery.

“I went into active labour the night before and feeling all the feels but mostly just excitement for us to meet our baby boy.

“I guess I'm sharing this because so many people have said: 'Do you feel like you missed out on the birth you wanted?'”

The Grammy nominee concluded her post by saying: “I had a birth and it was everything I wanted because I got him at the end of it, that's all that matters.”

On 19 May, Jessie J confirmed in an Instagram post that her first child had been born a week before. She gushed about the ‘indescribable’ love she feels for her baby and that she was ‘grateful’ that he arrived safely.

She posted: “A week ago my whole life changed. My son entered this world and my heart grew twice the size. The feeling is indescribable. I am flying in love.

“He is magic. He is all my dreams come true. He is my whole [world]. He and I are both doing great. I am soaking up every second and still can't believe he is real, here and mine.

“I am so grateful phew *happy tears*. For all of you that have followed my journey to this moment, thank you for all your continued love and support. I will be back on Instagram when I'm ready.”

The singer announced her pregnancy in January after she previously told fans that she suffered a miscarriage in November 2021.
