The Crown season 5: Trailer, release date and cast

The Crown season 5: Trailer, release date and cast

Season 5 of the Netflix drama lands on screens in November.

The Crown is finally back on our screens for season 5 and is set to drop on Netflix on 9 November.

The hit drama series, which premiered back in 2016, follows the life and times of the late Queen Elizabeth II, from the 1940s through to (almost) present day.

But with the fifth instalment set to cover the turbulent 1990s – which saw the royal family suffer a spate of divorces, a catastrophic fire at Windsor Castle and the death of Princess Diana – the series premiere has already been met with controversy.

Some say it comes too soon after the death of the Queen, with others arguing it’s disrespectful to showcase Prince Charles – now King Charles III’s – alleged affair.

Creator Peter Morgan has been forced to jump to the Golden Globe-winning show’s defence, while the streamer has added a disclaimer to its series description calling it a ‘fictional dramatisation’ that’s ‘inspired by real events’.

So what will happen in The Crown season 5? Here’s what we know so far...

Elizabeth Debicki, Dominic West and Imelda Staunton will all star in series 5.

The Crown season 5 trailer

The tense trailer which dropped last week suggests season 5 will be the most dramatic yet, charting Charles and Camilla’s alleged affair and the emotional toll it took on his faltering marriage to Diana.

We also see the pressure looming over the Late Queen as she has some tough decisions to make.

The devastating Windsor Castle fire of 1992 will also play a significant part in the series with the trailer showing the historic building going up in smoke.

When is The Crown season 5 coming out?

Season 5 will be landing on Netflix Wednesday 9 November 2022. The new series will be made up of 10 episodes which are expected to drop on the streaming platform at the same time.

Series 5 will cover the collapse of Charles and Diana's marriage.

Who is in the cast of The Crown season 5?

New cast members have been recruited to show the true ageing of the characters and to give the drama more of a true real feeling.

So, who will we be seeing?

Imelda Staunton will be playing Queen Elizabeth II; Jonathan Pryce portrays the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip; and Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki as Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Among the new faces we will be seeing Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonny Lee Miller as former Prime Minister John Major.

We can't wait to see what season 5 has to offer!
