Netflix viewers have been left scarred for life after watching an ‘unhinged’ scene in new show Obsession, saying they simply ‘can’t unsee’ it...

Based on Josephine Hart’s 1991 novel Damage, the four-part series follows the intense sexual affair between William Farrow (Richard Armitage), a talented surgeon, and Anna Barton (Charlie Murphy), his son’s fiancée, which 'spirals into a dangerous, all-consuming obsession, with devastating consequences for the whole family'.

A synopsis for the steamy new thriller from Netflix fan platform Tudum warns: “Get ready to defog your screen because it’s gonna get hot in here.
“William, a renowned doctor, is at the height of his career - he just successfully performed a 14-hour brain surgery on conjoined infants - and his wife and grown kids are wildly proud of him.
“But trouble starts brewing after he meets his son’s girlfriend and sparks fly - nay, explode. The two begin a torrid affair that quickly spirals into a dangerous, all-consuming infatuation.”
And already viewers have found it’s living up to its saucy reputation - though not perhaps in all the ways they’d imagined, after catching one particularly shocking scene involving Armitage and a pillow.

We see as William follows Anna to Paris, where she’s holidaying with his son Jay.
He manages to get into their hotel room and starts sniffing around, before proceeding to, um, hump a pillow - something that proved a little too bizarre for some people.
One tweeted: “What in the unhinged madness is going on here chile. A pillow?! A pillow?!”
Someone else said: “How can I unsee this show? Tragic for someone who saw Hobbits for the first time 5 days ago just to watch Richard Armitage s**g a pillow a few days after #ObsessionNetflix.”
A third wrote: “Watching #ObsessionNetflix - the image of Richard Armitage and the pillow will stay with me for a long while - but not in a good way...”

A fourth added: “Obsession #Netflix F**king hell was not expecting the pillow sniffing w**k.”
Believe it or not, Armitage previously revealed that the scene was improvised.
Speaking about filming it, he told Metro: “It was really unexpected because it was written as quite a different scene.
“There was a tissue with her imprint of her lipstick on which we didn’t feel necessarily worked.

“I was really conscious that it shouldn’t be in any way comedic so we sort of left it quite open and it was a bit of an improvisation actually.
“Charlie had - without me knowing - sprayed her scent that she’d been wearing throughout the shoot into different parts of the bed and I just got the sense of it, and that’s where the scene just opened.
“But the recording it wasn’t too planned, actually.”
