Netflix has treated us to a first look at the upcoming movie adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's novel Lady Chatterley's Lover.
If you've heard of this book, chances are you'll know of the controversy surrounding it. The novel was famously banned in the UK after first being published in Italy in 1928, and in Paris the following year.
The publishers Penguin were taken to trial under the Obscene Publications Act, but the company managed to win the case and earned the right to publish the book in its entirety in 1960.
Unsurprisingly, intrigued members of the public were keen to see what all the fuss was about, and the book sold 200,000 copies on its first day of publication.

Society and what is considered 'acceptable' has obviously changed a lot since then, and a lot of people probably wouldn't blink twice now at the content in Lady Chatterley's Lover. That's not to say it's not still intriguing, though.
Fans of a new generation will be able to check out the story in a whole new way from December, when the movie adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover arrives in selected theatres and on Netflix.
Starring The Crown's Emma Corrin and Unbroken actor Jack O’Connell, the film tells the story of a woman who breaks away from the traditions of her time by beginning an affair with a man who works on her and her husband's estate.
Netflix released first look images from the film on Twitter today (3 October), showing both Corrin and O'Connell in action.

Corrin will play the eponymous Lady Chatterley, who is married to a wealthy landowner paralysed from the waist down. He's portrayed in the film by Matthew Duckett, who can be seen in character having a seemingly exasperated exchange with his wife.
Meanwhile, O'Connell takes on the role of gameskeeper Oliver Mellors.
Though society has changed a lot since Lady Chatterley's Lover was first released, the film's director, Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, has told Vogue the novel 'could have been written today'.
She explained: “It’s scary that not that much has changed since the ’20s. As women, we’re still fighting for equality. The idea of a woman being free is still scandalous.

"You only have to look at what happened with Roe v. Wade, and what’s happening now in Iran. This book is about a woman’s journey to empowerment, to controlling her body, owning her sexuality and owning her life."
The director has expressed her goal to 'emphasise' the point of view of Corrin's character, Constance Chatterley, and give the audience 'a visceral experience of a woman experiencing pleasure'.
Lady Chatterley's Lover is set to be released on Netflix on 2 December.
