The news was confirmed by host Matt Lucas on Twitter, who shared the news to his 1.2 million followers simply writing: “Now you know.”

Bake Off follows a number of amateur bakers through a series of challenging to test all aspects of their cookery skills.

From cakes to biscuits, eclairs to mille fois, our hopefuls are put through their paces to ensure they're crowned Star Baker for the week.

Returning for another series, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be casting a watchful eye over proceedings and assessing whose bakes are best - and whose soggy bottoms are not up to standard.

Joining them are popular, if not zany, hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas.

Filming for this series took place over the summer, with production, cast and crew all forming a "support bubble" in order to reduce the chance of Covid-19 from halting production.

Channel 4 has been teasing fans of Bake Off about the upcoming series, having previously shared a short clip on the social media pages titled, "Loaf is in the air", accompanied with a birds-eye view of the tent and the show's instantly recognisable theme.

Last year's winner was 20-year-old student Peter Sawkins, the youngest champion in Bake Off history, in what the judges called the "closest" final of recent series.

"It's an absolute dream - I was really pleased with how I managed to step through all the challenges," he said at the time of the win. "I feel in a really privileged position because of course there will be some opportunities that arise from this, and it would be amazing to try and explore them, but at the same time I am going to keep on going with my degree, so I'm in a nice position."
