The Great British Bake Off returned to our screens on Tuesday evening and the iconic tent soon became rather chaotic after one contestant's gravity defying masterpiece crumbled in front of the judges.

Chigs, a 40 year old sales manager from Leicester, started baking during lockdown and managed to gain a spot in the 2021 line-up.

The showstopper challenge set by judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood asked for an 'anti-gravity illusion cake' and Chigs decided to whip up a cake of a mug pouring batter into a bowl.
He named it 'Where It All Began', and the impressive sweet treat was intended to symbolise his humble beginnings as a baker.
But after carrying the cake to the judges table with the help of co-presenter Matt Lucas, the delicious showstopper unfortunately fell apart.
Once the cake had made it onto the judges' table, the mug began to split down the middle. "It's gonna break... it's gonna break," Chigs said as he tried to hold the mug together.

Despite his best efforts, the mug split and ended up on the floor. Luckily, he managed to see the funny side of the situation, joking: "Well it was anti-gravity before but that's not what it is now!"
After hours of hard work, Chig's was left holding the broken mug in his hands after it fell off his cake podium.
Despite the faux pas, the judges enjoyed what was left of his cake.

Viewers at home offered their condolences to the chocolate dessert, with many fans suggesting they would have eaten the mug despite its crash landing.
"Surely the five-second rule applies to Chigs' 'cup' cake. They should've tried it," one fan wrote on Twitter.
Another viewer shared: "Actual footage of watching my heart fall apart."

A third person typed: "It was all going so well!"
One other GBBO summarised: "I mean couldn't they have at least just caught it and put it to the side? Why waste a perfectly good cup (made)of cake?"
