First trailer for Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has just dropped

The highly anticipated film is set to be released in 2023

Come on Barbie, let's go party because the first trailer for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling's new movie has arrived!

The highly anticipated live-action flick isn't set to arrive in cinemas until next summer, but after leaked images from the set sparked excitement earlier this year we now have a chance to see Robbie in action as the iconic character.

Check out the trailer below:

The trailer describes the introduction of Barbie into the world of kids' toys, pointing out that dolls were often based on babies until the fashionable grown-up woman came along.

We see Robbie pull down her sunglasses and give a wink to her adoring fans before we're treated to a quick montage of what's to come, showing Barbie waving to her - very pink - community, Gosling appearing in a leather waistcoat as Ken, and what looks to be a series of big dance numbers.

Robbie and Gosling will be joined in the flick by a number of big names including Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, and Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings actor Simu Liu.

The film is directed by Little Women's Greta Gerwig, who admitted that taking on such an iconic character comes with 'a lot of baggage' and 'a lot of nostalgic connections'.

Speaking to Vogue about the project, she continued: "But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t...’”

The director also told Dua Lipa's At Your Service podcast the whole experience was 'terrifying', explaining: "I think there's something about starting from that place where it's like, ‘Well, anything is possible!’

"It felt like vertigo starting to write it. Like, where do you even begin? What would be the story? I think it was that feeling I had that it would be really interesting terror. Usually, that's where the best stuff is. When you're like, ‘I am terrified of that.’ Anything where you're like, ‘This could be a career-ender,’ then you're like, ‘OK, I probably should do it.’”

The new trailer has only served to cause more excitement among fans who already couldn't wait for the movie, with one viewer responding to the video to say they 'didn't expect the movie to look THIS good'.

Barbie is set to be released in cinemas on 21 July, 2023.
