Interactive Map Shows Where Kids Can Eat For Free This Half Term

A new interactive map has been launched to help families find places where kids can eat for free.

The tool comes in response to Marcus Rashford's endeavours to end child food poverty in the UK.

After Conservative MPs voted against the motion brought by Labour to ensure the free school meal scheme could be extended until Easter next year, the Manchester United player shared a number of restaurants and eateries across the country on his Twitter page that are offering free meals to children during the half-term break.

The 22-year-old received a huge number of replies, which have now been collated by Joe Freedman - who previously set up the #allkidsmatter website.

Freedman has created an interactive map so families can see which restaurants are taking part near them. A link to the map can be found here.

In a description for the service, Freedman wrote: "Hats off to Marcus Rashford. List taken from Marcus' tweet listing names and locations, as well as venues submitting their help."

McDonald's is one of the biggest fast-food chains who have pledged to help the cause, having donated the equivalent of one million meals.

They have also agreed to provide funds to FareShare to help re-distribute food to families who need it the most during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

There has been a growing sense of anger towards MPs for their controversial vote.

Over 200,000 people have signed a petition calling for MPs meals to stop being subsidised by the tax payer.

Recent figures have now resurfaced showing that UK tax payers fork out as much as £57,000 every week in order to subsidise food and drink for Westminster politicians.

Rashford has been at the forefront of the campaign to ensure no child goes hungry due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

The footballer received an MBE earlier this year after he campaigned for the government to allow about 1.3 million children to claim free school meal vouchers in England's summer holidays.
