Let's talk about the pain that is peeling onions.

Sure, its hardly the most pressing of the world's problems, but the culinary task always feels unnecessarily arduous and fiddly - and that's all before we get to chopping the damn thing.

Well, luckily for us, Denver-based chef James Rembo has shared the ultimate hack for peeling an onion - and there won't be a weepy eye in sight.

Sharing a demonstration on his TikTok and Instagram, James showed off his super quick trick which will shave minutes off your cooking time.

Begin by simply cutting your onion in half and removing the inner bulb with your fingers.

Then, turning the onion skin-side up, James punches down on the onion with his fist.

Using a smidge of force, the skin breaks off the onion, and the chef finishes by simply pinching it off. Et voila.

It's hardly the most elegant way to peel an onion, but it sure gets the job done!

The video - which has been viewed thousands of times - is just six seconds long, proving just how quickly you could de-skin a whole bunch of onions.

"Gonna try it. Thanks similar to garlic I guess," wrote one follower.

Next, simply punch down on the onion to break it (

"Same with garlic!" said another.

A third who tried the tip, warned those who are not used to the trick to go softer with their punch to start.

"I broke my hand and I don't know if my crying because of the pain or the onion," they wrote.

On a similar note, last year people were blown away by this really simple method of peeling garlic.

Valentina, a video game creator from Toronto, posted her technique on TikTok, writing: "As someone who makes a lot of Korean food, this is the best method for getting garlic peeled!"

The video shows her de-skinning her garlic at lightening speed with a simple stab and twist technique. She simply works around the garlic bulb, one clove at a time, sticking in a knife and twisting it out of the skin.

The now-viral technique seems to have confounded Twitter, and has been shared over 120,000 times and liked over 350,000 times.

We're all for a cooking hack that skims valuable minutes off the time it takes to be in our mouths!
