Since McDonald's shut its doors over two weeks ago due to the coronavirus pandemic staff safety concerns, we've all been left craving our favourite items from the menu.

One thing in particular we've been missing is the Sausage and Egg McMuffin. Drool.

We regularly turned to this mouthwatering breakfast bap when we were nursing a terrible hangover on a Saturday morning - and when we weren't. And whilst we love it, we miss the hash brown that comes with it even more.

And it looks like we're not the only ones pining, people have been taking to social media to air their distress.

One said: "Didn't think i'd miss sausage and egg mcmuffins this much".

Another penned: "I miss Mcdonalds breakfasts would love an egg McMuffin about now".

Hearing our woes, McDonald's has released its recipe and explained how to recreate the McMuffin at home, which under the circumstances will do the job for now. Not like we've got anything better to do with our Saturday morning than cook, right?

Now the ingredients required for it aren't exactly essential shopping items, so maybe wait until you need to head to the supermarket to pop these things into your basket. To make one, you'll need an English muffin, 75g sausage meat, two eggs, a slice of American cheese (aka plastic cheese) and a potato.

To create, first season the sausage meat with salt and pepper and shape into balls before flattening into patties.

Once this is done, you need to get your hash brown ready by grating the potato into a bowl. Then mix in an egg and season with salt and pepper.

Then take the meat patties and cook under a pre-heated grill for six to seven minutes each side (or as per instructions on packaging).

Whilst your meat is cooking, heat a glug of oil in a pan and add a spoonful of potato mix. Flatten and cook until golden brown on both sides.

You also need to get your eggs ready. Use frying egg rings and brush the inside of them with a little oil before placing into a small frying pan.

Then pour just enough water to cover the base of the pan and bring to the boil. Next, crack the eggs into the rings, covering and cooking for two to three minutes.

Whilst the eggs finish off, toast your muffin until golden brown.

Assemble your McMuffin by layering the patty and egg on top of a slice of cheese and sandwich between the muffin halves and serve your hash brown on the side.

Though let's be honest we're 100 per cent making four hash browns (min).

And the best bit about these McMuffins? You can even have them past 11am. Fancy a McMuffin for dinner then go for it. See there are SOME perks to cooking them yourself.
