A Marathon With Ten Wine Breaks Is Coming To London

Wine not get involved?

If you're a lover of a Merlot and running, then entering the Surrey Bacchus Marathon will have you on cloud wine.

The physical feat takes place a stone's throw away from London on the grounds of the Denbies Wine Estate nestled in the stunning Surrey Hills on September 8th.

Named after the Greek God of "wine, fertility, and ritual madness", the running challenge boasts 10 wine breaks and 12 wines for participants to try over the full marathon, making it a very merry experience altogether.

Marathon goers will get the chance to sample England's finest wines; from a fresh Chardonnay to a velvety Pinot Noir, while jogging through the Dorking-based vineyard.

Fancy dress is very much encouraged for the run and there's no need to worry about curating a playlist for the occasion as there will be bands playing at various points of the course too.

This is not exactly a brand-new concept, as the French already have the Marathon du Medoc, in which runners get to stop and have a little glass of wine.

If the sound of a wine marathon sounds like a feat you're not quite ready for yet - the event also offers a wine half-marathon and a more modest wine 10km.

There is an entry fee for the full and half marathons of £50, which covers the cost of all the vino and snacks, as well as a medal, t-shirt, post-race hog roast, more drinks, parking, baggage and free digital downloads of your race photos.

For the 10K run it's £30, and the two-mile one is absolutely free, although you won't get a medal for the latter.

This year the event is taking place on Sunday 8th September, and you can view full details here.

So grab your partner in wine and remember everything happens for a Riesling... sorry we couldn't help ourselves.
