Pantone Announces Colour Of 2019 As 'Living Coral'

Pantone just announced its colour of the year for 2019, and it looks like everything is going to be covered in 'Living Coral' next year.

Also known as Pantone 16-1546, the colour is a warm and vibrant orange tone and we're definitely a huge fan.

To come up with the colour of the year, Pantone starts its research earlier and studies trends in fashion, art and films to see if there is a shade that keeps popping up.

On the website Pantone describes the choice as: "In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy.

"Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolising our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.

"Representing the fusion of modern life, Pantone Living Coral is a nurturing colour that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media."

Pantone is definitely trying to keep us feeling optimistic about 2019.

If you don't want to paint your whole room Living Coral, why not add a pop of colour with cushions or throws.

Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, said: "Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral emits the desired, familiar, and energising aspects of colour found in nature.

"In its glorious, yet unfortunately more elusive, display beneath the sea, this vivifying and effervescent colour mesmerises the eye and mind.

"Lying at the centre of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, Pantone Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of colour."

Pantone has been predicting the colour of the year for the past 20 years, and it often gets it right.

In 2016, Pantone said a light pink called Rose Quartz would take over, which we all know now as 'Millennial Pink'.

Last year's colour was Ultra Violet which was said to 'communicate originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future'.
