When you think of Wilko, pick 'n' mix sweeties, homeware and stationery instantly come to mind, but could the high street brand be the new beauty stop for make-up lovers?

It seems like good old Wilko has caused quite a stir with its new Essence False Lash Effect Mascara Princess.

"Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara will help you unleash your inner princess!" promises the product description.

"The special, conic shape of the fibre brush provides lashes with length, dramatic volume and a false- lash effect. The packaging is decorated with a gorgeous evening dress in black-mint. Princess(ence) deluxe!"

The mascara has also received rave reviews from Reddit users, who are all heaping on the praise.

Just_Kathryn posted a picture of her lashes with one eyes coated in the mascara and the other without, and the results speak for themselves really.

People were so impressed, with one person commenting: "Essence is awesome, one of my favorite drug store brands and they are also one of the most affordable! I think this mascara is awesome."

Another person exclaimed: "Ok you've convinced me with your amazing lashes. Although I have about 10 mascaras in my stash waiting to be used, I'm gonna go out and finally get myself this mascara! I need to try it!"

A third person added: "I bought this mascara thinking I would hate it. I figured hey, it's cheap, and worth a try--I wouldn't feel awful about tossing it if it didn't work out. I LOVE THIS.

"I bought Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir in the Sephora sale because the holiday packaging lured me in, and returned it because this performs just as well if not better for a fraction of the price."
