During quarantine, many of us are giving home hair a go, partly through sheer desperation while salons are closed, and partly through boredom.
As a result, people are either coming out of their ordeals considering a new career in hairdressing or oppositely, feeling thankful they don't have to see another human soul for a while.

Bethany Burch is one unlucky person who can relate to the latter, after an attempt at dying her brunette hair a light blonde left her with bright ginger locks.
The optical assistant, 25, decided to give herself a lockdown makeover by transforming her reddish brown hair into a platinum blonde, while also giving it a cut.
She began by stripping her hair back to its natural dark brown at her home in Chatham, Kent, before she applied a box of bleach.

When she washed the bleach away, that's when she noticed she'd dyed her hair the exact some colour as her husband Declan, 30.
"I couldn't believe it was the same colour as Declan's," Bethany said.
"I knew it was ginger as soon as I'd rinsed it out, but I didn't realise it was exactly the same until I stood next to him.

"I did not expect it to go that ginger, I wanted a nice light blonde. I did everything properly it just didn't work.
"It went horribly wrong and ginger is definitely not my colour.
"My family couldn't believe it, I didn't tell them what had happened then I FaceTimed my mum and brother.
"Mum couldn't believe what I'd done and my brother was in stitches, especially when they saw us together."
The mum-of-one has only dyed her hair twice in the past: once when she was 16 and the other time after she'd given birth to her nine-month-old son, Theodore.

Bethany said her son didn't recognise her afterwards, while Declan, a Burger King manager, suggested the dye could simply be rinsed out.
"Theodore didn't like it at all, he wouldn't even cuddle me or let me hold him. He wouldn't even go near me," she said.
"Bless Declan, he just didn't understand why I was panicking and said I should just wash it out.
"I had to explain to him that it doesn't work like that, that's it now, it's permanent."
Bethany decided not to give the red head life a go, and immediately had her husband rush to the shops for more hair dye so she could return to her natural brown colour.

"I knew it didn't really matter at the minute as no one is going to see it, but Theodore is definitely a lot happier now it's brown again," the mum said.
"It hasn't put me because at least everyone had a good laugh.
"It's kept us amused and given us something to do while we're locked in the house.
"I cut my own hair at the beginning of lockdown which turned out fine, but I obviously need more practice with the dye."
There's your warning: save any drastic restyles for the hairdressers!
