Disney Reveals Details Of New Streaming Platform

Disney has unveiled details of its forthcoming streaming platform set to rival the likes of Netflix, Hayu and more.

The franchise's service, Disney+, will launch in the US in November this year, and will feature Disney classics as well as exclusive live-action remakes, Marvel films, Starwars and every single episode of The Simpsons ever made.

It is unclear when the streaming service will come to UK shores but more details are expected to be announced in the next few months - you can sign up here to keep in the loop.

Disney+ is also starting off with a cheaper price than a Netflix subscription at $6.99 per month (£5.35). Netflix's pricing starts at £7.99 per month.

Robert Iger, Disney's chairman and CEO, said: "Disney+ marks a bold step forward in an exciting new era for our company-one in which consumers will have a direct connection to the incredible array of creative content that is The Walt Disney Company's hallmark.

"We are confident that the combination of our unrivalled storytelling, beloved brands, iconic franchises, and cutting-edge technology will make Disney+ a standout in the marketplace, and deliver significant value for consumers and shareholders alike."

The platform will work like other streaming services and you will also be able to download Disney content to watch on-the-go.

All of Disney's content since 1930 will reportedly be on the platform. Impressively, there will be over 7,500 episodes and 500 films to watch in the first year, and that number will gradually be added to.

Disney has already removed almost all of its content from other streaming giants in the run-up to the launch of Disney+.

Original Star Wars and Marvel spin-off programmes are in development for Disney+.

Apple is also creating its own rival platform to Netflix and Disney+, so there'll be even more to choose from when you fancy a weekend binge-watching TV.
