Facebook Messenger Now Has A Dark Mode - Here's How To Unlock It
The social media platform has recently introduced 'dark mode' to its messaging app, which turns your screen from white to black.
All you need to do is send a crescent moon emoji to one of your contacts to activate the mode. Other moon emojis (like the ones with faces) do not work here, so make sure that you are using the correct one.
Provided that your app is up to date, once you send the single crescent a whole bunch of moons with silly faces will waterfall down your phone screen.
Messenger then tells you that you have discovered 'dark mode' and takes you to the settings where you can turn it on and off with a toggle tool.
And once the new feature is turned on, your entire screen will become a little easier on your eyes, especially at night (or even when you wake up in the morning!).
The new feature works on both on Android and iOS, although feedback on social media suggests that it might not have been rolled out to everyone just yet.
Some Messenger users may need to double-tap on the moon emoji to get it to work or restart the chat app entirely.
Facebook revealed at a developer conference last year that it would be bringing a dark mode to the app, following in the footsteps of other social media platforms, like Twitter, which already have similar features.
Feedback to the new Facebook chat update from the app's users is mixed.

"DARK MODE IS FINALLY ON FB MESSENGER. I'm in loooove," exclaimed one, whereas somebody else complained: "Am i the only one who's not loving messenger's dark mode?"
Facebook recently launched a new 'unsend' feature, which allows users to retract messages they regret sharing, as long as it's within 10 minutes of pressing send.
