A man has been allowed to be at the birth of his child, despite having a restraining order taken out against him by his pregnant ex-partner.
His ex-partner had been granted the civil protection order, which can be issued when there is evidence of the partner being subjected to violence, or threatened with it.
The man from Carlisle had the restraining order imposed on him by Cumbria Police at Rickergate Magistrates Court.
But the magistrates court in Cumbria said that 'emergency appointments' relating to his ex-partner's pregnancy are in fact allowed.

The father-to-be is therefore allowed to see his child being born.
The court said he is allowed to attend the official appointments as long as they are held in a public place. Medical professionals will also need to be present at the appointments.
The man, who has not been named, had opposed the 28-protection order being imposed on him.

Although he will be allowed to attend the appointments, he has been ordered by the court to leave the couple's shared home and will not be able to go within 100 metres of the house ordinarily.
