Dame Barbara Windsor is being laid to rest in London today, one month after her death.

Family and friends gathered on Friday to send off the acting legend, who died on 10 December aged 83 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

The private ceremony took place at Golders Green Crematorium in north London this afternoon, with mourners including husband Scott Mitchell, and stars Ross Kemp, David Walliams and Matt Lucas.

The much-loved star's funeral cortege featured a pink floral tribute spelling the words The Dame.

Under current lockdown restrictions, funerals are limited to 30 people while wakes are limited to 15.

Dame Barbara, who played landlady Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders and starred in the Carry On movies, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014.

Speaking in an ITV documentary last year, her husband Scott described how the disease - which is the most common form of dementia - had turned their lives upside down since Barbara's diagnosis, saying: "It's not the Barbara that I knew. It's not my wife Barbara any more.

"I'm Barbara's carer, I'm still her friend, you know, I still love the bones off the woman but it's not the Barbara I know, and you [do], that I live with."

Stars flocked to pay tribute to the Dame following her death just before Christmas.
