Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh leaves ITV presenters speechless with ‘terribly white’ balcony comments

Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh leaves ITV presenters speechless with ‘terribly white’ balcony comments

Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh has been criticised for calling the Buckingham Palace balcony 'terribly white'.

If you were flicking through the TV channels yesterday, you would have found it quite hard to find a channel not broadcasting the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

One of those providing lengthy coverage of the big day was ITV, who started off at the crack of dawn with a Good Morning Britain special.

Coverage then led into an ITV special, which saw presenters Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham joined by a slew of guests at their temporary broadcasting base near Buckingham Palace.

The presenters were also joined by reporters on The Mall, as many thousands flocked to Buckingham Palace for a view of the newly-crowned King and Queen.

However, back in the studio, Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh delivered a comment which left the ITV presenters in disbelief.

The comment left all in the studio shocked.

Following the appearance of the Royal Family on the balcony, ITV went to their temporary studio for a reaction.

Andoh, whose father was of Ghanaian origin, was asked for her thoughts, to which she said: "We have gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to a terribly white balcony.

"I am very struck by that.

"I am also looking at those younger generations and thinking: 'What are the nuances that they will inhabit when they grow?'."

Following the comment, the look on Myleene Klass' face is certainly a sight to see, as she was seen staring at the actor as she talked.

The clip was then shared on Twitter, with many criticising Andoh for her choice of words.

Many have criticised Adjoa Andoh for her comments.

"They are a white family, for goodness sake! Does she think individual families should be subject to diversity quotas?" one person wrote on Twitter.

A second added: "I’m so confused by #AdjoaAndoh what did she expect to see? The Royal Family are a white family!"

Meanwhile, a third remarked: "Was Adjoa Andoh just there to slag off the royal family for having the nerve to be white?"

And a fourth wrote: "It’s shocking that companies like @netflix and @ITV are giving Adjoa Andoh a platform. To go on national tv and deride a family because of the color of their skin."

Tyla has reached out to Adjoa Andoh's reps for comment.
