Woman sparks debate after her boyfriend 'ruins' their first holiday together

Woman sparks debate after her boyfriend 'ruins' their first holiday together

She's been left wondering if their relationship is 'worth it'

Going on your first holiday with your partner is always a milestone moment.

It can even be a make or break for your relationship as you see whether the person you're dating is someone you want to travel and spend a lot of time with.

Lots of couples can find their first time away together stressful, but one woman has opened up about how her boyfriend's behaviour had dampened the holiday spirit and ultimately 'ruined' it for her.

Taking to Reddit, she wrote: "So I'm currently on my first holiday with my boyfriend and he's just ruined it, completely."

She then told readers how she had been 'saving up for this for weeks' by putting all her tips at work to one side and only buying the bare essentials so that she and her partner could have a great vacation.

While she was saving and putting money aside, it turns out her boyfriend didn't share her thrifty mindset.

Instead, she explained how he was waiting for a deposit to come back, yet she pointed out he was also still spending on 'extraneous things' including Warhammer.

Yet because of her partner's rubbish savings, it's impacted her and as the woman explained: "I've been paying for EVERYTHING since we got here, and he already owed me about £25 from before this trip even started but now the total exceeds £100.

"I don't have infinite funds to feed two people on a holiday, especially with the constant worry I'm never going to get shifts again, and he has the awful habit of buying the most expensive things on the menu - it got to the point I didn't even feel like I could go to the f*****g pub last night for fear of going back into my overdraft because he got himself a dessert without even asking if it was okay!"

She then added: "I get he sees it as 'his money' cos he'll pay it back (I don't doubt that) but it's the principle of a. not respecting I'm not a 'magic money tree' and b. not having the foresight to save a bit of money for our first holiday. And now I've brought it up he's gotten all moody at me, and spent the day sulking in the hotel room while I went and had fun. It's just making me wonder is it worth it?"

The woman finished by saying she's been left upset with 'a lot of undue stress I didn't want', and that she 'just wanted a break from it all but I just feel worse than I did at home'.

Reddit users were quick to offer advice and share some words of wisdom.

One person pointed out: "Sounds like you've learned quite a few things about his personality, judgment, temperament and values. That is priceless."

Another had some 'cruel to be kind' advice as they wrote: "Some of this is on you. You're choosing to bankroll him, and while it's nice that you 'saved up so hard' for the trip, if him owing you an extra $100 (hell, even $200) has this much of a stressful effect on you when thinking about finances, you weren't as financially set for this trip as you thought you were."
