People shocked after finding out how often the average person actually has sex

People were shocked at the figure after it was revealed on TikTok

Your sex life is often the catalyst of whether or not you are in a healthy relationship, with many placing great importance on regular sex.

Of course, everyone's relationships are different, but what’s the average amount that people tend to get lucky?

A TikToker went viral last year after revealing the magic number - which is a lot higher than you’d expect it to be, so reactions weren’t best pleased.

Posting a video about it, Daniel Schaal, aka, @thatschaalfolks said to the camera: "The average person has sex 54 times a year or so, looks like the next few days are gonna be pretty crazy for me."

Of course, many TikTok users found the stats hilarious, and a lot of them said the same thing.

"I'm the reason it's not 100 times a year lol," one person said.

Another wrote: "I'm bringing down the average so you guys feel better about yourselves."

A third responded: "Well someone here must be doing it 54 extra times to make up for me."

According to the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, a 2017 study said that the average person has sex nearly once a week and also stated this updated data was less frequent sex than when a similar study was done in the 90s.

So, they were all banging in the 90s? Got it.

Another study that was published in Social Psychological and Personality Science also said this amount of intercourse was actually the perfect amount for happiness.

Having been conducted over 40 years ago, it looked into the personal lives of more than 30,000 Americans and found that any more than once a week didn't improve the happiness of participants - although any less brought down satisfaction levels.

However, those stats may have been affected by the pandemic during that time.

This is because when lockdown measures were first introduced, one of the only benefits was an improved sex life for couples quarantined together.

When staying at home together became the new normal, it left time for couples to spend time together whenever they wanted it.

It even brought on a prediction that there would be a Covid-19 baby boom, as bored couples spent their time wisely.

However, when condom sales dipped in March, the boss of Durex blamed pandemic anxiety.

Speaking to the BBC, Laxman Narasimhan - boss of Reckitt Benckiser, which owns Durex - said: "What you see is this virus is having a toll on the number of intimate occasions in the UK.

"Intimate occasions are going down and that is a manifestation of anxiety."
