When Whitney Dickson uploaded a picture of her in a top last month, she didn't think she would get this sort of response.

After seemingly'rejecting' a man after he sent her message that said: "Hello gorgeous xx", Whitney then received a body shaming message from him.

The man returned to her Instagram DMs to tell her to "Put a bra on". The message was in reference to a selfie that Whitney had taken of her in a Boohoo blouse that many have noticed is designed to not be worn with a bra.

In the picture, Whitney's nipples are visible under her shirt but in no way is she posting any nudity on a public page.

After a couple of hours of posting the selfie, the man who had previously been trying to compliment Whitney, then shamed her for the braless picture.

The 20-year-old accountant, Whitney Dickson, responded with a simple "No lol" and then explained that she shouldn't be ashamed of parts of her body.

Whitney, from Dudley, West Midlands, said: "I can't control whether my nipples are poking out or not. I'm not flaunting them to be sexy, they're just part of my body."

She continued: "When he said that in all honesty I was about to delete the photo, and then I thought 'No, why am I going to let someone dictate what I'm going to do?"

Whitney found a lot of support when she shared her story to social media (

Whitney shared the post to social media and was inundated with hundreds of supportive people in the comments, with a young woman praising the photo to Whitney's mother at her tanning salon.

"She said the post gave her the confidence to go out and wear a top that she didn't feel confident wearing," Whitney said. "It made me feel really good to inspire someone like that."

Whitney has since blocked the man in question.

Good for you, Whitney! Don't let anyone make you feel ashamed of your body.
