Woman Earns £30k A Year Being A Professional Cuddler

A woman who is a professional cuddler earns over £30k a year spooning, hugging and snuggling clients.

Robin Marie, 48, earns £31,500 a year ($40,000-a-year) or £60 an hour ($80) from her job and spends around 45 hours a week spooning, hugging and snuggling.

Each of her clients come through a website called Cuddlist, which offers a training program to assist cuddling pros (just in case you're an excellent big spoon and want to put your skills to good use).

Cuddle therapy is strictly platonic and all clients are fully clothed at all times. Robin has been cuddling up to clients full time for 18 months.

Robin, from Kansas City, Missouri, USA, said: "I spend up to 25 hours-a-week cuddling clients for work, then around ten hours a week cuddling my boyfriend and about seven hours-a-week cuddling my cat.

"I never get bored of cuddling. It's very rewarding. It causes the body to release oxytocin, the 'bonding hormone', which makes us feel happier and less stressed.

"We have a code of conduct and I specify that they must wear a minimum of a t-shirt or tank top and lounge pants.

"Boxer shorts or briefs are not acceptable."

The cuddling sessions usually last for between one and four hours and take place in a "calming space" she rents in Kansas City.

Robin also added that her boyfriends have been fine with her job as they know it's not sexual.

The cuddler explained that her clients come from different backgrounds and are a range of ages.

She said: "My youngest client was 20 and the oldest was about 75.

"I get all kinds of people male, female, gay, lesbian, transgender.

"People in all different professions from grocery store clerks to clergy, business people, college students, blue collar white color, people of all different races, religions and nationalities.

"I get single people, people who are happily married, unhappily married, widowed, divorced, people in monogamous relationships and those with multiple partners.

"The majority are male, but they are often gay or transgender as well as straight."

Many of Robin's clients have been starved of physical contact for a long time so 'compassionate listening' skills are vital.

She added: "Many people are feeling isolated and are suffering from what is known as 'skin hunger.'

"They often cry when they have had a bad day or just from relief at finally feeling safe and comforted."

Robin has also noticed some improvements in her physical health since becoming a full-time snuggler.

"I have fibromyalgia and I've definitely noticed a reduction in pain, an improvement in my sleep, an increase in energy and a general reduction in my stress," she said.

"I'm a Type A person, so cuddling has really helped me to go with the flow a lot more, I've noticed it massively over the last year and a half.

"I don't think I'll ever get bored of it. In my personal life or at work."
