Bride-to-be forced to cancel 'dream' wedding after guests refuse to gift over £800 each

Bride-to-be forced to cancel 'dream' wedding after guests refuse to gift over £800 each

The Canadian bride dumped her husband amid the financial woes

Wedding planning can either bring out the calm and collected nature of a wife-to-be, or unleash something commonly referred to as a 'bridezilla'.

But should we really be surprised? Not only do the bride and groom have to cover the colossal cost of hosting all their loved ones, they also have to reserve and fund invites, a venue, catering, dresses and suits, reception party, DJs, stag and hen-dos... and that's before even thinking about the honeymoon fees.

There's absolutely no doubt that getting married is one of the most stressful things you can do in life.

And it looks like the pressure that comes with exchanging vows has become too much for one particular bride this week, who has ended up sacking off her wedding altogether.

Whilst you might feel sympathetic towards the bride-to-be, the circumstances surrounding the woman's decision have sparked an extremely mixed reaction.

That's because the outraged bride claims she was forced into changing plans for her big day after guests allegedly refused to pay the £800+ fee she asked of them in order to attend.

The anonymous bride in question - known only as Susan - shared her story online, seemingly not expecting her to face the wave of backlash that she did.

Taking to Facebook, she explained in a wedding support group (yes, these do exist...) that she'd been forced to shut down her lavish plans after guests refused to pay their share of the special day.

Canadian-born Susan - who is to marry her unnamed childhood sweetheart - had arranged every element of their extravagant nuptials, which she explained in the social media post had eventually totted up to a staggering $60,000 (the equivalent to around £35,292).

Being that she'd gone over budget with her 'fairytale' wedding plans, however, the bride explained that she was forced to ask each of her guests to contribute $1,500 each (£882) so that they could enjoy the celebration they'd envisioned.

She went on to explain, however, that many guests were understandably insulted by Susan's request, with many claiming they couldn't or wouldn't be paying.

It was then, she says, that she felt forced to abandon her wedding plans altogether, and that - on top of that - the stress had caused she and her husband-to-be to split up.

"Dear friends, it comes with great sadness that I am announcing the cancellation of the wedding. I apologise for cancelling only four days beforehand," she wrote online.

"Unfortunately, [fiancé] and I have broken up due to some recent and irreparable problems. We have decided to end our relationship and not go forth with any future proceedings.

"I specifically, I mean specifically, asked for cash gifts. How could we have our wedding that we dreamed of without proper funding?"

Susan went on: "We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500. We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true."

Apparently, only the maid of honour, the family of the groom-to-be and eight other guests paid their contribution to the big day - something which Susan claims is not an 'out of the ordinary' request.

"Like, we made it clear. If you couldn’t contribute, you weren’t invited to our exclusive wedding. It’s a once and a lifetime party," she hit out.

Apparently, on top of the financial woes, it was her fiance's suggestion of a Las Vegas elopement that was the final straw for Susan.

"I laughed in his face, but he was dead serious," she penned. "My ex left the room and didn’t apologise for his horrid suggestion. I then called my maid of honor and cried my eyes out.

The bride was left heartbroken by the outcome.

"Instead of sympathy, I was told that I was asking for way too much and I should stick to the budget."

As well as cutting ties with her husband-to-be, Susan revealed she also ended up ending her friendship with the maid of honour.

"I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day and then live my life like normal. I called her a filthy f**king poor excuse of a friend, and hung up."

All I can say is, good luck to the man that ends up with Susan!
