Malibu launches B.A.B.E.S anti-spiking campaign with Munya Chawawa and Amber Davies

Munya Chawawa and West End star Amber Davies to create an informative and educational song to help raise awareness on anti-spiking

You’re on a night out with your girls and one of them starts feeling strange, acting unlike themselves. Sometimes, though, things we don’t expect happen – like drink spiking.

You’ve heard rumours of people being spiked at this club before, but surely it’s not that common, is it? What do you do?

Unfortunately, it happens more often than you’d think. But just like you want to look out for your besties, so do Malibu.

Malibu’s Censuswide I Got You B.A.B.E.S report found out that 40% of 18-25 year olds think they have been spiked, with 73% admitting that they wouldn’t know what to do if they or their mates were involved in a spiking situation.

Out of those surveyed, 71% felt vulnerable, 61% scared and 25% abandoned. With spiking cases on the rise, these scary stats led Malibu to team up with comedian Munya Chawawa and stunning West End star Amber Davies to create an informative and educational song (that’s also an absolute bop, too).

The video doesn’t only have a visually stunning aesthetic (we’re getting major Barbie vibes from this one), but the catchy beat and memorable lyrics are so valuable they could even save a life. If you get one tune stuck in your head this winter, make it this one.

Listen to the catchy tune below.

The tasty coconut rum brand’s new five step protocol aims to educate people on what to do if themselves or a friend was to become the unfortunate victim of spiking.

The five steps are simple, babes. In fact, they literally are B.A.B.E.S:

Buddy up - Stay with your friend

Alert staff - Speak to bar or door staff for assistance

Be chatty - Keep your friend talking

Emergency call - Call 999

Switch to water - Sip water, not alcohol

Speaking on the campaign, Amber Davies, said: “I have seen first-hand that when faced with a spiking situation, people are often unsure what to do or where to begin.

“Reflecting on my own experience, it would have been so reassuring for me and my friends to have had access to B.A.B.E.S, so we have created these practical and memorable steps, that means everyone can look out for their besties. ”

As well as dropping this educational track - and bringing the summer vibes all year round with their delicious pre-mixed cans - Malibu have partnered with Stamp Out Spiking to train 2000 festival, bar, club and convenience staff and consumers to know how to deal with a spiking situation safely.

This is the second year of Malibu's ongoing Good Vibes Only campaign which aims to create safer nights out for everyone. The alcohol brand is also donating £20,000 to the charity so it can continue to tackle the increasing incidents of drinks spiking across the UK and Ireland.

If spiking happens to one of your faves, remember B.A.B.E.S. #IGOTYOUBABES.
