Lidl Is Building Its Own Pub So You Can Have A Cheeky Vino While You Shop

What a good idea.

They say you should never go shopping while you're hungry. But if you happen to pop to Lidl when you're thirsty, no worries.

The budget supermarket has announced plans to build its first pub which will be housed alongside the supermarket, so if you do fancy a cheeky vino after hitting the shops, all you have to do is pop next door.

After all, shopping in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak can be tricky and we could do with a drink after the stress of realising there's no toilet roll left on the shelves - again.

The pub - which would be located at the Dundonald store, outside Belfast in Northern Ireland - is still in the very early stages, with the supermarket having filed for planning permission this week.

It will be situated next to the supermarket and is set to have a different entrance. Like any normal pub, there will be a bar as well as a seating area with tables and of course, toilets.

There will also be an off licence shop area, where punters can stock up on their favourite Lidl tipple.

It's not been confirmed exactly what the pub will be selling - or how much a pint will cost - but hopefully it'll offer some budget friendly options, just like the supermarket itself.

A Lidl spokesperson told Tyla: "Lidl can confirm it has lodged an application to open a licensed premises within our Dundonald store.

It's unknown whether the supermarket will introduce pubs across the UK (

"This will offer shoppers an off licence service along with a public house."

The development of the pub is set to cost in the region of £7 million. It's unknown when works will begin - or when the pub will open - but hopefully in time for summer.

Lidl could not confirm whether the pubs would be rolled out across the UK, but we certainly hope so.
