Like a trusted friend, dry shampoo has been there for us in the times when we've needed it most - in the aftermath of a questionable night out, before that spontaneous date, or ahead of an all-important meeting.
But now a TikTok user has revealed that we've been using the lifesaving quick-fix product wrong this whole time - and our minds are blown.
If, like us, your dry shampoo technique for greasy and oily hair mainly consists of 'spritz liberally and go', then you may want to read on.
Hairdresser Cora, who shares hair tips and tricks on TikTok under @corascamera, says: "So, you're probably using dry shampoo wrong - and I'm going to show you how to use it right."

Intrigued? Here's Cora's guide to dry shampooing your hair correctly.
1. Take your favourite dry shampoo and spray it generously - we mean very generously - all over your roots, carefully working through section by section. In other words, don't just blast it over the areas that are easiest to reach.
2. Next, leave your dry shampoo to sink into your hair for 5 to 10 minutes. Cora leaves hers in while she does her makeup.

3. After you've let the product sit for a while, thoroughly rub your dry shampoo through your hair with your fingertips to evenly spread out the mattifying formula.
4. Then, brush your hair through to the ends.
5. Cora likes to follow up with a light spritz of dry conditioner on her ends. Cora uses Kevin Murphy's Young.Again Dry Conditioner.
6. Voila! You're left with clean-feeling, perfectly dry shampoo-d hair!

While Cora uses Kevin Murphy products in her video, she reveals that her "favourite dry shampoo in the world" is in fact Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo.
Talking about Cora's dry shampoo hack, Freelance Hair Stylist Hayley Gittins says: "Dry shampoo is great for creating volume and as a remedy for greasy hair. Personally, I like Bumble and Bumble's dry shampoo along with G2b Dust - which mattifies and volumizes - and the Batiste dry shampoos for blonde and brunette hair colours."
Hayley agrees that it's best to section off your hair and massage the product in.
"It's best to work into the roots in layers and be careful not to go too wild on the top layer. No one wants a grey tinge, especially as it comes out very obviously in photos!"

She continues: "I've never heard of leaving dry shampoo on for 10 minutes - but maybe?! It's definitely worth massaging it in. Afterwards you can give it a quick blast with a hairdryer for extra volume and to get rid of excess dust."
"Obviously, dry shampoo dries your hair out so I wouldn't use it all the time, especially not on bleached hair.

"A good tip is to add a light coat of hairspray afterwards to get rid of any white residue," she adds.
