Dick and Angel Strawbridge explain why Escape to the Chateau ended following 'bullying' scandal

Dick and Angel Strawbridge explain why Escape to the Chateau ended following 'bullying' scandal

After being axed as hosts from Escape to the Chateau, Dick and Angel Strawbridge address rumours of a bullying scandal on the show

Channel 4 left property show fans reeling earlier this year after announcing that iconic hosts Dick and Angel Strawbridge were to get the chop.

The channel said it ceased working with the husband-and-wife duo on the much-loved Escape To The Chateau 'following a review into their conduct'.

A controversial clip - obtained by Deadline - heard Angel, 45, appearing to describe a member of the production team as a 'f**ked up little c**t'.

The clip also heard the TV star appearing to accuse one of the individuals of posting a photo to Instagram of a man she said had a likeness to her husband.

"Who is that inspired by when you’re f**king working at the chateau? Just tell me that and then you can f**king leave and this is me f**king angry because I think you’re a f**kind up little c**t," she said in the clip originally from 2021.

And today, appearing on the Lorraine with her co-star husband Dick, Angel addressed rumours of a behind the scenes bullying scandal taking place on the show.

Speaking to host Christine Lampard, she addressed the rumours head on: "You know the saying 'Never complain and never explain', I think that was just the best way.

"None of it made sense because we had made that family decision a long time ago that it was the right time for Escape to come to its natural end."

Dick then insisted it was he and Angel's decision to step down from the prestigious hosting role - something they had deliberated over two years prior - despite it being revealed in May that Channel 4 had cut ties with the couple.

"As a family, we made a decision that last year was going to be the finale," he claimed. "We told everyone two years ago so this it wasn't news for us."

And being cautious of how to address the bullying speculation, Dick added: "We made the decision just not to get involved in any of the conversations."

According to Deadline, in May this year, sources claimed that the production firm had raised concerns about the presenting duo, with the publication reporting that three of their former colleagues had alleged that the couple had clashed with producers.

Angel claimed their time on the show had come to a natural end.

Around the same time however, Dick and Angel themselves released a statement on social media paying tribute to their fans.

"Thank you for inviting us into your living rooms. You have watched our children grow up and shared our adventures," they wrote.

"It was a Strawbridge Family decision early last year to conclude Escape to the Chateau, but we have loved every moment and, despite the many challenges, we refused to give up on our dream.

"And in doing so have filled the chateau with love and laughter, and, most importantly, have created the most wonderful home for our family."

A Channel 4 representative later told press, however: "Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future."
