Will Smith reacts to Jada Pinkett Smith's bombshell memoir

Will Smith has reacted to Jada Pinkett Smith’s bombshell memoir, following shock headlines that the pair have been secretly separated.

Will and Jada tied the knot back in 1997 and went on to have two kids together – Jaden and Willow – while Will also has a son from a previous relationship, 30-year-old Trey.

However, in a new interview with People, Jada revealed that she and her husband of more than two decades have actually been secretly separated for years.

"We’re still figuring it out," Jada told People in an interview to tie in with her new autobiography, Worthy.

"We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us."

Jada spoke out about the separation ahead of the release of her new autobiography Worthy, which is out on 17 October.

The book promises to ‘spare no details’ on Jada’s life as she shares an ‘intimate conversation with readers’, answering questions about ‘her difficult childhood, her marriage, her parenting style, her career choices, and the intense scrutiny that followed "the slap"’.

It turns out Will has already had a read, and while it sounds like the memoir covers a fair few difficult topics, it seems he has nothing but nice words for his estranged wife.

He wrote to Jay Shetty, who shared Will’s response on his podcast On Purpose, where he was joined by Jada to promote the new book.

"I applaud and honor you," Will wrote.

"If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would have hugged you more. I'll start now. Welcome to the author's club. I love you endlessly. Now go get some Merlot and take a rest."

Tearing up, Jada said: "That's beautiful... That's why I can't divorce that joker!"

Will also told the New York Times that the book served as a bit of a wake up call.

“When you've been with someone for more than half of your life a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties,” he explained in an email, adding how Jada had lived a life more on the edge than he’d realised, and that she was more resilient, clever and compassionate than he ever understood.
